During August 2018

In August 2018, the Australian Union and Solidarity Choir (AUSC) had been in Dili for a delightful opportunity to sing Timor resistance songs with new friends. Since the 1990’s some choir members had sung the songs of Francisco Borja da Costa in support of Timorese activists in Australia.
The AUSC Timor trip of 2018 included singers from Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and Melbourne. For most this was their first trip to Timor. APHEDA (Australian Union Aid Abroad) and the Working Womens’ Centre of T-L hosted the choir’s rehearsals.
A booklet of AUSC songs was made freely available to other artists and students. The booklet included Tetun and English translations of the songs.
The first concert was jointly with the Dili Community Choir. Other concerts included HAK, Klibur Domin in Tibar, Working Womens’ Centre, Eskola Cinco da Maio in Becora, CHEGA Centro and Guido Valadares Hospital. The Choir also visited a joint rehearsal of the choirs of St Cecilia and St Ignacio in Balide.
